Information and status of Enviromental Transmission & Mitigation Open Grant Call
Grant Information
The key focus of the 2025 Environmental Transmission & Mitigation Co-operative Strategic Open Grant Call is on Development and Evaluation of Risk Mitigating and/or Intervention Technologies to reduce environmental transmission. We invite research proposals in the following areas of interest:
Development of Novel Risk Mitigation and/or Intervention Technologies
Development of innovative, effective, safe and energy efficient technologies aimed at mitigating environmental risks or serving as intervention solutions, ensuring real-world applicability and sustainability.
The primary objective is to eliminate pathogens of epidemic potential, including human influenza virus, coronavirus, and other respiratory viruses.
The proposed solution should result in a fully functional prototype - a new platform or device that can be rapidly deployed in response to a potential infectious disease outbreak.
Epidemiological Assessment of Risk Mitigation and/or Intervention Technologies
Evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of existing or newly developed technologies in reducing environmental transmission (e.g. aerosol- or fomite-mediated spread) of respiratory viruses.
The evaluation should be conducted in laboratory and field settings.
The studies should employ robust trial designs with appropriate sample sizes and should be conducted over a minimum period of six months.
The study must demonstrate measurable impact in reducing disease transmission.
Proposals that address the above points - innovative development, efficacy, energy efficiency and safety and rigorous epidemiological assessment - will be given preference.
The work may cover experimental testing, modelling and simulations and device prototyping.
The proposal should address specific issues related to sample pooling, testing, data analysis, modelling, and/or interpretation methods related to mitigation. The study may include at-risk groups, vulnerable populations and various communities.
Funding information:
S$1.3M (incl. 30% IRC) for 2 years.
Eligibility Criteria
Only one Principal Investigator (PI) is allowed per application. There is no limit to the number of Co-Investigators (Co-Is) or collaborators.
The Research team (PI and at least one Co-I) must comprise researchers from at least two local institutions. Co-Investigators need to hold at least an adjunct position in a local public institution.
Researchers from overseas institutions or private companies can only participate as collaborators.
